Hurricane Michael made landfall in the Panhandle as a Category 4 hurricane. The center is moving northeastward and heavy rainfall could produce flash flooding today over portions of the Carolinas and Virginia.
Teams from Pinellas County were deployed to affected areas.
The tropics are currently quiet.
For the Tampa Bay area, the high pressure behind Hurricane Michael brought drier conditions to the Tampa Bay area.
- Power outages from Hurricane Michael:Storm surge caused flooding along Gulf Boulevard and low lying areas during the periods of high tide on Wed., Oct. 10 and into Oct. 11.
- Duke outages: On Oct. 9 there was a total 158. On Oct. 10 there was a total of 5. On Oct. 11 all issues from Hurricane Michael were resolved.
- Dangerous rip currents continue.
- Initial assessment of the beaches seem to indicate that the renourishment project successfully protected the sand dunes, though it appears that a significant amount of near-shore sand may have been distributed. USF will be taking measurements in the couple of weeks.
